UFTM is an enterprise-level solution primarily used by developers and testers worldwide. It provides remote access to a lab of real mobile devices and emulators, supporting various scenarios in the development, debugging, testing, and optimization of mobile apps and websites.

Background

UFTM is an enterprise-level solution primarily used by developers and testers worldwide. It provides remote access to a lab of real mobile devices and emulators, supporting various scenarios in the development, debugging, testing, and optimization of mobile apps and websites.

Challenge

When we first realized the need to extend UFTM's functionality and improve the accessibility of Testing Mode. Our team felt immense pressure. The market's demand for broader testing environments was increasing, with clients constantly requesting support for cloud browsers and Selenium tests.

This wasn't just a simple feature addition; It was a qualitative leap in the platform's overall capabilities.

Outcome

We successfully integrated the Browser Lab function into UFTM, significantly enhancing the platform's capabilities. This new feature enables users to run tests on cloud browsers and generate Selenium scripts, expanding their testing reach and efficiency.

Design Process

User research & competitor analysis

Given the turnaround, I conducted a small survey study with 15 people. Most of these individuals are testers and developers. I designed the first draft and Low-fid to define the visual style and information architecture.

Centralized Lab Need

Users consistently highlighted the need for a centralized lab integrating real mobile devices and emulators, allowing seamless switching between testing environments to improve efficiency.

Managing Complexity
Users expressed concerns about the cognitive load of new features like cloud browser testing and Selenium script generation, emphasizing the importance of intuitive design to ease their learning curve.

Based on user interview feedback and competitor analysis, I developed the design draft concepts.

Test

During the design testing and review phases, my designs received consistent recognition for their user experience. However, due to insufficient consideration of business aspects, further iterations were necessary, particularly to emphasize the importance of this functionality within the platform.

Information Architecture & User Flows

Added Selenium script generation and Browser Lab features to highlight UFTM's capabilities.

Final Design

High-fidelity prototypes with a dual-tab structure for Browsers and Generate Script.

Takeaways

  1. Aligning Design with Business Goals

In my two years at UFT Digital Lab, I learned the importance of integrating business objectives into the design process to ensure both user satisfaction and strategic success.

  2. Significant UX Contributions

While the Cloud Browser feature is a key highlight of my work, I have also played a crucial role in various other projects, enhancing the overall platform functionality and user experience.
